Read image metadata

JPG, PNG and WEBP. Up to 64 MB and 24 megapixels on this device. Camera, photo and location data are read on your device.

Metadata is displayed automatically after you choose a file. A picture can have no EXIF yet contain XMP or text; those containers are listed when detected.

Remove metadata from an image →

Metadata removal cannot erase text, faces, locations or watermarks visible in the image itself.

Processing happens locally in your browser. Your files are never uploaded.

Originals untouched. Verify local processing. Advertising makes separate network requests.

How it works

  1. Choose a JPG, PNG or WEBP image. Its filename, size and oriented dimensions appear locally.

  2. Review Camera, Photo and GPS fields. A warning appears when location metadata is found.

  3. Keep the original for your records, or open Remove Metadata to create a clean sharing copy.

Processing happens locally in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. Google advertising makes separate requests. See how to verify local processing.

File details and embedded tags are different. Read theimage metadata guide for the difference between EXIF, XMP and IPTC, and why recorded dates cannot prove a photo’s authenticity.

EXIF Viewer: common questions

Why does my image have no EXIF?

Screenshots and exports may contain no EXIF, and messaging or editing applications can strip it. The viewer reports “No EXIF metadata found.” instead of treating that as a failed conversion. XMP, IPTC or text containers may still be listed separately.

Are GPS coordinates sent to a map service?

No. Coordinates are displayed as text on your device. The tool does not contact Google Maps, Mapbox or another location API. Advertising requests are separate from file processing and do not receive file data from this tool.

Are all camera maker notes supported?

No. This viewer focuses on common EXIF camera and photo tags, GPS and known metadata containers in JPG, PNG and WEBP. Proprietary maker notes, unusual metadata variants and other image formats are not fully covered. Missing parsed fields are labeled Not recorded.
