Clean image metadata

JPG, PNG and WEBP. Up to 64 MB and 24 megapixels on this device. Camera, photo and location data are read on your device.

Creates a new image, applies its display orientation and removes EXIF, GPS, IPTC and XMP. The downloaded result is parsed again to verify removal. The original stays untouched.

PNG is lossless from decoded pixels. JPG and WEBP are re-encoded at quality 95 and can change detail, colors and file size. Dimensions follow the correctly oriented image. Color profiles are not retained.

Metadata removal cannot erase text, faces, locations or watermarks visible in the image itself.

Processing happens locally in your browser. Your files are never uploaded.

Originals untouched. Verify local processing. Advertising makes separate network requests.

How it works

  1. Choose a still JPG, PNG or WEBP. Review the detected metadata and any GPS warning.

  2. Choose Remove Metadata. The image is decoded with its display orientation, then encoded as a new file.

  3. The output is parsed again before download. Compare original and cleaned sizes and inspect the new image.

Processing happens locally in your browser. Your files are never uploaded. Google advertising makes separate requests. See how to verify local processing.

Remove Metadata: common questions

What metadata is removed?

The new pixel-based image omits original EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP and descriptive text. The tool checks the new container and parses it again before offering a download. It does not remove information visible in the picture, its filename, or copies held by other apps.

Does removing metadata reduce image quality?

This tool re-encodes pixels. PNG is lossless from the decoded pixels; JPG and WEBP use quality 95 and may change detail and file size. Color profiles are not retained and browser color handling can change appearance. Keep your original for archival use.

Will my photo rotate after removing EXIF?

Supported EXIF orientation is applied during decoding before the orientation tag is discarded. The cleaned file should display in the same orientation; a 90-degree rotation swaps its stored width and height. Animated images are rejected to avoid silently losing animation.
