About FormatPlease
FormatPlease is an independent project built around a simple idea: changing an image format should not require sending the image to someone else’s server. The converter reads files you choose, processes their pixels in your browser, and creates a download on your device.
File tools that work on your device
Use it to prepare a photo for a form, turn a screenshot into a more convenient format, or save PDF pages as images. You can process a batch without creating an account. The tools are free to use; Google advertising helps support the website.
- Prepare a PNG as JPG for a form or attachment, or rasterize static SVG artwork while keeping transparency.
- Combine TIFF scan pages into a PDF, merge PDF documents, or reorder PDF pages with local previews.
- Create a 256 × 256 icon from AVIF for software that accepts PNG-backed ICO files.
- Convert WAV, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, Opus and AIFF audio using a separate local audio engine.
- Convert video with local controls for output format, resolution and audio removal.
Local processing, stated limits
The conversion engine has no upload endpoint. It uses browser image APIs and selected open-source codecs. Large raster tasks run in browser workers where supported, while some document and compatibility paths run on the main thread. Your device supplies the memory and processing power.
That design has limits. HEIC needs native browser and operating-system support. Image conversion exports still frames rather than preserving animation, and multi-page TIFF offers all or selected pages. Limits on file size, dimensions and batch size help control memory use. The format reference documents these restrictions before you choose a file.
Keep the original
Format conversion is not archival preservation. A new file may have different compression, color handling or metadata. Converted images omit original EXIF information, including GPS data. Keep your original if you need to edit it again, retain camera information, or prepare a color-managed print.
Verify the privacy claim
You do not have to take a lock icon as proof. Our network inspection guide explains how to check the converter’s requests. The public site also makes separate advertising requests to Google; local file processing does not mean the whole website is tracking-free. Anonymous tool usage statistics describe formats, approximate size ranges, outcomes and durations; files and filenames stay on your device.
Help improve the tools
Format variations and browser differences can expose bugs. Report a problem with the input/output formats and your browser version. A small, non-sensitive sample can help reproduce an issue, but never post private documents or photos to a public report.
Software and site policies
The software notices identify the components used for each engine and link to retained license texts and source downloads. Read theterms of use for conversion limitations and theprivacy notice for the distinction between local file processing, website requests and advertising.
