Configure Watermark

Text or image

English letters, numbers and common English punctuation. Chinese and other non-Latin text need an embedded font unavailable in this version; use a PNG logo instead.

Position

0 of 0 pages selected. Watermarks appear above original content. Duplicate pages are included once, in document order. Margins bound the whole rotated watermark; centered positions stay centered.

Editing may invalidate digital signatures. Detectable signed or certified PDFs are rejected; this check is not a guarantee that a PDF is unsigned. Review special forms, bookmarks and annotations in the downloaded copy.

Settings update the preview automatically. Apply uses the same PDF shown in the preview. Originals stay unchanged; a visible watermark does not prevent copying or removal.

Processing happens locally in your browser. Your files are never uploaded.

Originals untouched. Verify local processing. Advertising makes separate network requests.

How to Add a Watermark to PDF

  1. Upload an unencrypted PDF and check its file details and page count. Detectable signed PDFs are rejected.

  2. Choose Text Watermark or Image Watermark. Enter a label or select a still PNG or JPG logo.

  3. Set position, opacity, rotation, margins and page range. Settings update the actual PDF preview; use the page selector to review different pages.

  4. Apply Watermark and download a new watermarked PDF. Your original stays unchanged.

Text vs Image Watermarks

Text labels such as CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT and COPY stay selectable PDF text. Choose a still PNG for transparent logos or a JPG for a solid image. Image orientation follows the existing browser decoder. Only the logo is decoded into pixels; your PDF pages retain their original content.

Watermark Position and Opacity

Use the nine-position grid, horizontal and vertical margins, scale and rotation to place a mark inside the visible page. Opacity ranges from 5% to 100%; 25% gray at 45° is the text default. Placement follows each page’s rotation and visible CropBox/MediaBox intersection. Oversized marks are rejected rather than clipped. Check mixed-size pages with the preview selector.

Does a Watermark Protect a PDF?

A visible watermark helps readers recognize ownership or document status. It does not prevent copying or removal and provides no password protection. This tool adds marks above original content; it does not offer a background layer or a digital signature.

Privacy

Your PDF, image and watermark text remain in the browser. Editing runs in the existing local worker, and only the current preview page is rendered. Temporary URLs, canvases and workers are released when replaced, cleared, completed or cancelled. Signed documents can lose signature validity after editing; detectable signatures are rejected, but this is not proof that every accepted file is unsigned.

Add Watermark to PDF: common questions

Are my PDF, logo or watermark text uploaded?

No. PDF editing, logo decoding and preview rendering happen on your device. File names, document contents and watermark text are not sent to analytics. Advertising makes separate requests.

Can I add Chinese watermark text?

This version embeds standard Helvetica for English letters, numbers and common English punctuation. It does not include an embeddable Chinese font, so non-Latin text is rejected. A PNG containing those characters can be used as an image watermark.

Will a transparent PNG logo keep its background?

PNG alpha is retained when embedding the logo. JPG has no transparency. Animated images, SVG and other image formats are not accepted; export a still PNG or JPG first.

Does the watermark stop copying or removal?

No. A visible watermark communicates ownership, draft status or confidentiality. It is not encryption, permission control or a guarantee against copying, editing or removal.

Can I watermark only selected pages?

Choose All Pages, First Page Only or a Custom Range such as 1-3,5,8. Invalid or nonexistent page numbers are rejected. Repeated pages are processed once, in document order; other pages receive no watermark.

Will text, links and vectors remain in the PDF?

Watermarks are added as text or logo objects above the existing content. The original pages are not rasterized. Common text, vector artwork and links are retained where supported, but special forms, bookmarks, annotations, tags and other structures are not guaranteed. Review the output.

What happens to a digitally signed PDF?

Any edit may invalidate digital signatures. Detectable signatures and certifications are rejected. Detection is not a guarantee that a file is unsigned. Use an unsigned copy you are authorized to edit; this tool does not bypass passwords or re-sign documents.

What are the size and page limits?

The existing PDF limits apply: up to 64 MB per file and 50 pages, with stricter device limits where required. Logos use the existing image pixel and dimension limits. Marks that cannot fit completely inside the visible page are rejected; reduce size, scale or margins.
