BMP to AVIF, explained
Convert BMP to AVIF directly on your device. Create a still AVIF image with alpha using a lazy local WASM codec. Check palette colors and image orientation in older screenshots. A small compressed file can still decode into a raster that exceeds the image limits.
Choose BMP files and confirm the preview.
Keep AVIF selected. Adjust quality and check fine detail after conversion.
Convert and download the AVIF results. Multiple results can be saved together as a ZIP.
Reading your BMP source
BMP input is decoded by the browser. Common bitmap files are supported, but specialized or damaged variants can fail. The converter works with decoded pixels rather than preserving BMP header fields.
Settings for AVIF output
Choose quality 1–100 or lossless. The shared quality scale does not imply equal quality across codecs. AVIF encoding is slower than native JPEG and downloads a separate codec only when used.
Dimensions in BMP to AVIF
Original size keeps decoded raster dimensions. Advanced Settings offers percentage scaling or fit within a maximum width and height, with aspect ratio preserved and no cropping. Input and output safety limits both apply.
What survives the conversion
Output stores decoded 8-bit pixels. Lossless preserves those pixels, not original HDR, bit depth, metadata or animation. Check gradients and compatibility before sharing. Check palette colors and image orientation in older screenshots. A small compressed file can still decode into a raster that exceeds the image limits.
Batch processing and device limits
Choose up to 50 files, each at most 64 MB. Decoded images must fit 24 megapixels and 16,384 pixels per side; total outputs are capped at 256 MB. All conversion runs on this device. Source metadata is removed, and damaged or unsupported variants can fail without changing the originals.
